National Institute of Technology Hamirpur is one of the premier technical institutions in India. It was established in 1986 as Regional Engineering College, a joint and cooperative enterprise of the Govt. of India and Govt. of Himachal Pradesh. Presently, the institute enjoys an autonomous status and became NIT in 2002. It provides Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctorate education in Engineering, Architecture, Sciences and Humanities.

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) provide access to many online courses aimed at unlimited participation and open access via the web. It provides e-learning through online Web and Video courses in Engineering, Sciences, Technology, Management and Humanities. This is a joint initiative by IITs and IISc Bangalore. Other selected premier institutions also act as Associate Partner Institutions.

Tech MOOC is an initiative of NITH under the umbrella of the SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active-learning for Young Aspiring Minds). It provides free online courseware in the form of web courses and video lectures. These lectures utilize a multitude of facilities of the video medium such as chalk-and-talk, tablet writing, power point, two and three dimensional animations, interactive codes, etc. Each course comprises approximately 20 video lectures of about 15 minute duration and is an addition to traditional course materials.
